Discharging of these responsibilities by DPR do involve the supervision of various magnitude works at the drilling sites, producing wells, production platforms and also flowstations, crude oil export terminals, refineries, storage depots, pump stations, retail outlets, and any other locations where the petroleum product has been stored or sold. This operations also involves all pipelines carrying crude oil, natural gas and petroleum products, while they constantly carry out the underlisted functions:
(i) They are charged with the responsibility to Supervise all Petroleum Industry operations which is being carried out under strict licences and leases in the Nigeria.
(ii) They are to Monitore the Petroleum Industry operations which will make sure that these operators are in line with national goals and aspirations which should include things relating to Flare down and Domestic Gas Supply Obligations.
(iii) Making sure that the Health Safety and the Environment regulations which conform with national and international best oil field are practiced regularly.
(iv) Also ensuring the Maintenance of records on petroleum industry activities, especially those that matters on issues relating to petroleum reserves, production/exports, licences and leases.
(v) They also give the Government and relevant Government agencies advise on technical matters and public policies. These policies will inturn have impact on the administration and petroleum opreatins.
(vi) tHey are responsible for the Processing of industry applications for leases, licences and permits.
(vii) Ensuring a timely and accurate payments of Rents, Royalties and other revenues due to government .
(viii) Maintaining and administering of the National Data Repository (NDR).
